A mustard yellow slip decorated redware charger (or shallow bowl) with green sponge decoration and a sgraffito image of a bird and thistles . Made by the Lester Breininger, the famous Pennsylvania Dutch redware potter. Signed on back ” Breininger Pottery, Robesonia, Pa , Feb 25th 1988 . I understand that the potter often wrote the weather conditions on the back of his work. There is an incised ”Cold Winter Day”, which I believes refers to the weather on the day it was made. It measures approx 12″ in diameter and stands about 1.5″ high. Great condition, no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. A beautiful piece.
