A Spode transfer printed Castle pattern platter 18.25″ long by 14″ wide, circa 1820. It is in fine condition, nice and bright, no noticeable wear or any damage. It shows a blue printed “SPODE” mark on the rear.
The pattern is based upon an aquatint by Merigot entitled ” The Gate of Sebastian” (1796) with the foreground taken from another aquatint from the same year titled “Ponte Molle” Cf. A W Coysh & R K Henrywood the dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery, page 73
