A Spode blue transfer printed sauce tureen, cover and base in the Castle Pattern, circa 1820. It is 7.5″ long and 5″ high. The base measures 7.5″ long by 5.5″ wide. It shows a blue printed “SPODE” mark. It is in fine condition, no noticeable wear or any damage. It shows a blue printed “SPODE” mark.

The pattern is based upon an aquatint by Merigot entitled ” The Gate of Sebastian” (1796) with the foreground taken from another aquatint from the same year titled “Ponte Molle” Cf. A W Coysh & R K Henrywood the dictionary of Blue and White Printed Pottery, page 73.
