A Copeland Spode Lidded Slop Bucket
Ref: B840
Date: 1900
Quantity: 1
Dimensions: 13.75" high and is 10.25" wide
Price: $245
A Copeland Spode large late 19th, early 20th century good quality lidded slop bucket, made for the retailer Heal & Sons. It has beautiful floral decorations, shaped handles and a flower shaped finial. It has the makers printed and impressed marks underside, also the retailer’s mark. It measures 13.75″ high and is 10.25″ wide. The bucket has about six three inch cracks visible from the inside of the top rim, where the heavy lid has been replaced heavily or dropped when in use. These are not usual in this type of piece. They are not seen from the outside and not threatening, the rim is quite firm.
Where there was no bathroom sink, slop buckets were used to empty washbowls and the ‘grey’ water was then taken outside and disposed of.
